The Red Sea Revealed

Desert Rock and Shebara in one seamless journey

5 nights across Desert Rock and Shebara, Two MICHELIN Key resorts in The Red Sea. This rare luxury journey for two begins with helicopter arrival into the Hejaz Mountains, a Mountain Cave Suite, cliff routes, Saudi coffee, astronomy, high-fidelity sound and fire-led dining. It then continues to Shebara, where design, reef, diving, water sports and overwater living bring a completely different expression of The Red Sea into focus.

Experience Overview

A Journey Between Two Futures

The Red Sea is no longer only a coastline being opened. It is becoming one of the most ambitious resort landscapes in the world, and this journey shows why. Desert Rock brings architecture, adventure and culture into the mountains with remarkable restraint, from the quiet arrival through stone to the surprise of a listening room built for vinyl in the desert. Shebara changes the mood completely, with stainless steel villas by Killa Design, a reef directly below the deck, Mediterranean and Japanese dining, Galaxea-led marine encounters and a sense of future-facing luxury that feels unlike anywhere else in the region.

Desert Rock

Desert Rock

The first half is intimate and tactile. Guests stay in the Mountain Cave Suite, move across the Massif by via ferrata, descend by rope, take part in a Qahwa ceremony, listen to records in The Listening Room and end the evening with astronomy under a clear desert sky.

Shebara

Shebara

The second half is brighter and more aquatic. The One-Bedroom Overwater Villa becomes a private base above the reef, with snorkelling, scuba, crystal kayaking, e-foiling, SUP yoga and dining shaped by the sea around it.

The Journey

The Journey

The transfer between the two resorts is part of the experience. The helicopter route makes the change immediate, mountains falling away beneath you before the islands and coral begin to appear.

What Defines the Experience

Two MICHELIN Key Resorts

Two MICHELIN Key Resorts

Desert Rock and Shebara have each been awarded Two MICHELIN Keys. Together, they show how distinctive The Red Sea has become, with one resort shaped around mountain adventure and the other around reef, design and island life.

Mountain Cave Suite

Mountain Cave Suite

The Mountain Cave Suite is the most appropriate Desert Rock setting for two. It feels private, enclosed and deeply calm, with a plunge pool facing the canyon and interiors that make the mountain part of the stay.

Shebara Overwater Villa

Shebara Overwater Villa

The One-Bedroom Overwater Villa at Shebara is one of Saudi Arabia's most striking new rooms. Designed as a reflective pod above the sea, it places the private pool, bedroom and terrace directly over the reef.

Helicopter Crossing

Helicopter Crossing

The journey is connected by air. Arriving at Desert Rock gives a full view of the Hejaz landscape, while the flight to Shebara reveals the shift from inland terrain to reefs, sandbars and open Red Sea water.

Via Ferrata and Abseiling

Via Ferrata and Abseiling

The mountain programme gives the stay its physical edge. Via ferrata brings height and movement across the rock face, while abseiling creates a slower, more focused encounter with the same cliff.

The Listening Room

The Listening Room

This is one of Desert Rock's most unusual pleasures. A purpose-built high-fidelity room, curated vinyl and desert silence create an intimate pause between the mountain activities and the night ahead.

Qahwa and Astronomy

Qahwa and Astronomy

The cultural moments are deliberately quiet. Saudi coffee, cardamom, dates and storytelling mark the transition from Desert Rock, while astronomy connects the night sky to older traditions of navigation and travel.

Ariamare and iki.roe

Ariamare and iki.roe

Shebara's dining gives the island its own rhythm. Ariamare brings Mediterranean cooking, handmade pasta and premium ingredients to the water's edge, while iki.roe shifts into Japanese-Nikkei flavours for a sharper, more contemporary evening.

Galaxea Reef Days

Galaxea Reef Days

Marine experiences are led through Galaxea, from private outer reef snorkelling to scuba and introductory diving. The reef is not only seen from the villa. It is entered, followed and understood with guides.

Water in Motion

Water in Motion

The Shebara days are designed around different ways of reading the sea. A crystal kayak lets the reef pass beneath you, e-foiling lifts the board above the surface and SUP yoga slows the final afternoon into balance and breath.

What to Expect

From Mountain Arrival to Reef Days

The first part of the journey has a strong sense of arrival. The helicopter leaves Red Sea International Airport, crosses the Hejaz landscape and brings you into Desert Rock from above. The resort feels private from the start, with the Mountain Cave Suite, plunge pool, canyon view and an evening that moves from The Observatory to dinner by fire at Nyra.

The full day at Desert Rock is active, but not overloaded. You cross the Massif by via ferrata, return for slow time in the suite, listen to records in a room designed for sound, then descend the rock by rope. The night closes with Arabian astronomy and dinner at Basalt, giving the mountain a final sense of depth before the journey turns seaward.

Shebara feels completely different on arrival. The villa sits above the reef, the horizon opens around the deck and the activities shift into the water. Outer reef snorkelling, crystal kayaking, e-foiling, scuba, SUP yoga and the optional night dive give the island several layers, from the surface of the sea to the colours that appear only after dark.

The Story

The Coast Revealed Slowly

For much of its history, this stretch of the Saudi Red Sea was known intimately by the people who lived with it, but only faintly by the wider world. Fishermen read the reefs and currents. Travellers crossed the inland routes between mountains and coast. The night sky carried practical meaning, helping people understand direction, season and distance.

The coastline has always had two characters. Inland, the Hejaz rises quickly, with wadis, granite, sandstone and desert tracks cutting through the land. Offshore, the reef systems grow in warm, clear water, holding coral, fish and colour that remain invisible until you enter the sea. The distance between the two worlds is short, but the feeling is completely different.

This journey follows that old relationship between mountain and water, but through a new expression of luxury. Desert Rock and Shebara are not generic resort openings. They are part of a larger moment in Saudi Arabia, where places once difficult to reach are being revealed with architecture, service and access that match the scale of the setting. The point is not simply to stay at two resorts. It is to understand why this coastline now matters.
